Peter Singer

Peter Singer is an Australian moral philosopher, author, public intellectual and a founding member of Giving What We Can. He is currently the Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, and a Laureate Professor at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne. He specializes in applied ethics.

Singer has been called the “world’s most influential living philosopher” by journalists. He is often credited with starting the modern animal rights movement and as a major influencer on the development of effective altruism (particularly due to his 1972 essay “Famine, Affluence, and Morality”).

He is the founder of The Life You Can Save, an organisation based on his book of the same name.

He has written, co-authored, edited or co-edited more than 50 books, including The Life You Can Save (2009), The Most Good You Can Do (2015), Why Vegan (2020), Practical Ethics, The Expanding Circle, Rethinking Life and Death, One World, The Ethics of What We Eat (with Jim Mason) and The Point of View of the Universe (with Katarzyna de Lazari-Radek.)
