GiveWell doesn't try to review as many charities or causes as possible. Instead, it focuses on finding and recommending programs that are evidence-backed, cost-effective, transparent, and underfunded. Based on its research, it recommends a short list of top charities, as well as direct discretionary grants from its giving funds to support a wide range of high-impact programs.
