Suvita works to increase childhood routine immunization in India through text message reminders and a network of ambassadors
In 2023, there were over 22.2 million children globally who missed out on at least one vaccination before their first birthday. And even though India's overall vaccination rates are relatively strong, the country's vast population means that a significant number of these undervaccinated children live in India.
Suvita’s mission is to “work towards a world in which every child has access to their basic vaccinations."
To achieve, this, Suvita:
Suvita reports having successfully delivered 40.6 million SMS reminders to families and pregnant women. It has recruited more than 9,800 community influencers across two states, reaching the caregivers of 1.5% of the world’s children born yearly.
We previously included Suvita as one of our recommended charities because the impact-focused evaluator Founders Pledge highlighted its cost-effectiveness in its 2022 Global Health & Development Fund grant report.
We’ve since updated our recommendations to reflect only organisations recommended by evaluators we’ve looked into as part of our evaluator investigations and decided to rely on; as such, we don't currently include Suvita as one of our recommended programs but you can still donate to it via our donation platform.
We have varying degrees of information about the cost-effectiveness of our supported programs. We have more information about programs that impact-focused evaluators (some of which our research team expects to investigate soon as part of their evaluator investigations) have looked into, as well as programs that we’ve previously included on our list of recommended charities. We think it’s important to share the information we have with donors as we expect it will be useful in their donation decisions, but don’t want donors to mistakenly overweight the extent to which we share information about some charities and not others. Therefore, we want to clarify two things:
You can find our 2024 evaluation of the Founders Pledge GHDF on the page dedicated to our evaluators research. While we decided not to rely on the GHDF for our charity and fund recommendations, we did find many of the grants made by the GHDF (specifically those for organisations also granted to by GiveWell) to be comparable in cost-effectiveness to those by GiveWell. We did not specifically look into the Suvita grant.
